Karen Salyer McElmurray, author of the memoir, Surrendered Child: A Birth Mother’s Journey (Association of Writers & Writing Programs Award), the novels, The Motel of the Stars (Editor’s Pick by Oxford American), and Strange Birds in the Tree of Heaven (the Chaffin Award for Appalachian Writing), and coeditor of a Collection of Essays, Walk Till the Dogs Get Mean: Meditations on the Forbidden from Contemporary Appalachia, will be reading from “Trip Around the World” an essay about place, self, and identify in Appalachia" She will be reading on the Blue Ridge Campus on Wednesday, September 12th at 2:20 pm in room 103.
