On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the UNG Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present an evening of music representing a wide variety of composers and styles. The Symphonic Band will perform a new work by Julie Giroux called Our Castaways. This beautiful new work pays tribute to the contributions of rescue animals. The Symphonic Band will also play a traditional Spanish March called Sol y Sombra along with other contemporary works for band. Notable pieces on the program performed by the Wind Ensemble include Two Spirituals by Stephen Taylor featuring UNG Soprano, Camden Pruitt and Concertino for Four Percussion by David Gillingham featuring UNG Percussion Soloists. The major work on the program is a world premiere by UNG music faculty member, Dr. David Peoples. Remembering the Fallen: Vietnam is a moving tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives in the Vietnam War. Various technology and effects will be used in the narration in order to read as many names from the Vietnam Memorial Wall as possible during the piece. The members of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band are UNG undergraduates representing a wide variety of majors. Both ensembles are under the direction of Dr. J. Ashley Jarrell. Admission is free for this 7:30 p.m. concert which will take place at the Dawsonville Performing Arts Center in Dawsonville, GA. This concert is sponsored by the Dawsonville High School Band.
