As we start back to school on August 1, 2017, we are
reminding all drivers in Lumpkin County that our 52
school buses are re-entering the local traffic. We are
transporting children and our foremost concern is
keeping them safe. We realize that our transportation
system impacts the daily commute for those in our
community, and we greatly appreciate your patience.
We also want to remind all drivers of state laws
regarding when to stop for buses:
?
Two-lane roadway – When the school bus stops
for passengers, ALL traffic from both directions
must stop.
? Four-lane roadway without a median
separation – When the school bus stops for
passengers, ALL traffic from both directions must
stop.
? Divided highway of four lanes with a median
separation – When the school buses stops for
passengers, only traffic following the bus must
stop.
? Two-lane roadway with a center turning lane –
When the school bus stops for passengers, ALL
traffic from both directions must stop.
?
Roadway of four lanes with a center turning
lane – When the school bus stops for passengers,
ALL traffic from both directions must stop.
