Unaware of how the sounds he was hearing on his limited record collection were produced, he invented some of his own techniques - without the aid of pedals or gadgets. She is an extremely versatile singer/songwriter/performer who was raised on Motown and folk music and fell in love with country blues after having been classically trained as a lyric coloratura. The result is a fairly uncategorizeable voice which has been described as having "a sweetness reminiscent of Emmylou Harris", a "tough, yearning, heartland approach which recalls Melissa Etheridge" and at the same time a "slinky, sensual voice that soars to the top of the funk".
