Karan A. Rawlins, UGA Invasive Species Coordinator, to Speak in Dahlonega
Karan Rawlins will be the guest presenter at a Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners’ meeting this October. Ms. Rawlins will be speaking on “Preventing the Introduction and Spread of Invasive Species in Georgia: How You Can Make a Difference.” All gardening enthusiasts are welcome to join the Master Gardeners’ meeting for this important discussion at 7:00 p.m. on Monday October 13, 2014 at the Park and Recreation Building in Dahlonega.
Karan Rawlins is the Invasive Species Coordinator for the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia in Tifton. Among her many duties in this position, Ms. Rawlins oversees the development of Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas and the development and training associated with the Early Detection and Distribution Mapping System in Georgia and across the United States. She also volunteers with citizen groups fighting invasive species and participates in conservation projects to preserve native habitats and the native species within those environments. Ms. Rawlins is the president and conservation director of the Coastal Plain chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society and a member of the Georgia Botanical Society.
