Artists at work around historic Downtown Dahlonega – in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains. A unique experience awaits you this spring if you are looking for an interesting outing and seeking creative art treasures. Take the Art Trail around downtown Dahlonega, Saturday, May 9, and see artists doing what they do best, creating art and fine crafts. Prior to the art demonstrations on Saturday morning, you can participate in the “Be Healthy Dahlonega Festival” that includes a free Family Fun Run and a chance for participants to earn money for their school, group, or team.
Chestatee Artists, Inc., a local art organization, is providing demonstrations Saturday in a variety of media as artists show their creative talents from 11 am to 4 pm. The 5th Annual Art Trail is part of a focus on art in Dahlonega during the designated “Art Month.” During your visit, also enjoy a culinary experience with lunch or supper at one of Dahlonega’s great restaurants. Six wine tasting rooms can further tantalize your taste with a variety of selections at each stop.
You can start the Art Trail from anywhere in downtown as demonstrators “ring” all sides of the public square. Watch as painters, jewelers, and fine crafters create their original works. Some downtown merchants will host artists in front of their shops, as well as in front of the Visitors Center. These artists include: oil painters, Wanda Smith, Carole Kennedy, Denise Roberson and Joyce Fox; watercolor artist, Oscar Rayneri; mixed media, Bart Prato; acrylic painter, AJ Wolff; Leather crafts, Tom Slavicek; chainsaw carver, Carl Pirone; folk art wind chimes, Pattie Pirone; jewelry, Paul & Florence Roberts; and stained glass, Letty Rayneri.
