News Release: 7/17/2018
The Dahlonega Woman’s Club want to invite everyone to make and display Scarecrows this year, beginning on August 29th. Permit your creativity take over and have some fun! This year’s suggested theme is Music / Mountain Music. Let your imagination skyrocket when visualizing artists, songs, instruments, or whatever innovative depiction comes to mind. The Scarecrows will be crafted by businesses, individuals, schools, and organizations, to be spooky, fun, and everything in between! Be sure to visit Dahlonega between September 1st and 23rd to discover your own personal favorite scarecrow at one of Dahlonega’s favorite seasonal events and then vote online to let your favorite choice be known! As always, all profits from this event will be donated to the Lumpkin County Library!
We will have two (2) competition categories this year: (1) School classes K-12/youth organizations and (2) Everyone Else. An overall People’s Choice award will be determined via online voting at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/scarecrows.
Separate recognition will be given to School K-12/youth organizations though they will still be in the running for Overall winner as well!
Scarecrow Applications should be submitted to: Dahlonega Woman’s Club, PO Box 772, Dahlonega, GA 30533 between August 1 and August 15.
Application fee is $35.00 (check or money order) – Schools K-12 and youth organizations are free.
Scarecrows may be set up beginning Aug 29 and must be completed no later than 6PM on Aug 31. (PLEASE DO NOT SET UP YOUR SCARECROW BEFORE AUG 29!)
Online voting will take place between September 1-23. Via https://www.surveymonkey.com/4/scarecrows.
All scarecrows must be removed by 6pm on Sep 25.
Winners will be recognized at the DWC General Meeting on Oct 4.
DWC members will be passing out application packages soon, but if they do not get to you, the forms can be found on the DWC website http://www.dahlonegawomansclub.com at the Scarecrow Stomp link.
Please give your Scarecrow a sturdy “skeleton”. Use durable materials that will survive three weeks in the elements. If you need a durable wooden frame for your scarecrow skeleton, they are available through the Woman’s Club website or contacts for $30.00. We discourage the use of real pumpkins! Dahlonega Woman’s Club, the City of Dahlonega, and Lumpkin County are NOT responsible for maintenance or disposition of your Scarecrow.
