SUMMARY:Dental Assisting Program
DESCRIPTION:The Dental Assisting Program is offered in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International\, Inc. (CCI). This program prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. This course covers several key areas and topics. Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting\, introduction to the dental office\, the legal aspects of dentistry\, policies and guidelines. Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy\, dental operatory\, dental equipment\, introduction to tooth structure\, primary and permanent teeth\, the oral cavity and related structures\, proper patient positioning\, dental hand-pieces\, sterilization\, and other areas. In addition to entry-level administrative jobs\, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program. This program includes 80 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on labs\, 40-hour clinical externship opportunity\, textbooks and CPR training. High school diploma or GED required. \n\n\n\n\n\nNOTE: This course is designed to prepare students to sit for the DANB Radiology Health and Safety Examination (RHS). Many states require that any dental office employee who will be performing radiological procedures (X-Rays) must take and pass the DANB RHS exam. Exam fee is not included in registration fee.\n\n\n\n\n\nDress Code: Black Scrubs Required\n\n\n\nCriteria for Successful Completion: \n\n\n\nTo receive a University for North Georgia Professional and Continuing Education certificate and CEUs\, students must attend 80% of all class sessions\, actively participate and complete a course evaluation\, as well as pass all quizzes and final exam with an average score of 75 or above. \n\n\n\n\n\nStudents are expected:\n\n\n\n1.To be on time for class. Attendance is taken at the beginning of every session. \n\n2.To fully engage in the material. Students should participate in class discussions and hands-on labs. Attendance and participation make up 50% of student grade. \n\n3.To achieve an average score of 75 or better on assignments\, quizzes and the final exam. Quizzes count for 25% of student grade. Final exam counts for 25% of student grade \n\n4.To wear black scrubs to each class session. You are required to make a $10.00 monthly payment during deferment. This $10.00 payment will be toward the interest that accurse on the account during deferment.
