During this time\, her experience has afforded her the opportunity to serve North Georgia in various capacities. As a legal advocate for victims of domestic violence\, and as Director of Victim Services\, she has served on two different DV Task Forces\, serving one as Chair for 2 years\, and was a member of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit Child Fatality Review Board. Having worked with two different sheriff's office administrations\, she assisted in the training and implementation of policies and standards for the use of GCIC Information. Not only did she train agencies within GCIC operations\, but also in DV response and report writing as well. Ms. Harris is also a POST Certified Training Instructor. In 2012\, she was appointed to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council by Governor Nathan Deal\, where she not only served as the Chair of the Crime Victims Compensation Board\, but also on the Executive and Victim Assistance Grants Committee as well. Ms. Harris joined the GBI as a CJIS Compliance Specialist in 2014\, and is currently assigned to the North Region\, which is comprised of the 22 northernmost counties in Georgia. Melanie is married to Kevin Harris\, and resides in Mineral Bluff\, Georgia\, with their two children.
