LifeSouth declares an emergency when the reserve blood supply that is used to restock hospitals drops to less than a two-day level. Type O-negative and platelet donations are especially needed. \n\nDonors must be 17 years or older\, or 16 with parental permission\, and weight at least 110 pounds. Donors must also be in good health\, and a photo ID is required.
