DESCRIPTION:Join us on July 4\, 2014 to celebrate Indepence Day family-style in Dahlonega on the historic town square. Do you remember being a child and what the 4th of July meant? Hot dogs\, watermelon\, parades\, flags waving and fun with family and friends while you waited until it got dark enough for the fireworks?  Then you sat watching the skies with anticipation as you heard the swoosh of the rocket and the ooohs and ahhhs at the burst of light and sparkles.  \n\n\n\nBecause of the 4th of July Family Day Celebration that is what still happens in Dahlonega. The day is filled with fun activities ? a fun 5k and 10k race\, a Patriotic Ceremony on the lawn of the Gold Museum\, a watermelon cutting by The Dahlonega Nugget\, an antique auto show\, and musicians filling the square with diverse sounds of bluegrass\, folk and country music. The Independence Day Parade through the historic square begins around 5pm and ends just in time to find a spot on the nearby drill field of the University of North Georgia to await the fireworks.\n\n\n\nWhat a great way to celebrate our nation?s birthday!\n\n\n\nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS\n\nDahlonega Firecracker 5k/10k- Downtown Dahlonega\n\n    6:30 AM- Registration\n\n    7:30 AM- Start\n\n    9:00 AM- Fun Run Start\n\n10 AM - 5PM: Gold City Classic Car Club Show - Courthouse Hill on East Main Street\n\n10 AM- 6 PM: Community Service Corner - Historic Downtown Square\n\n11 AM- 5 PM: Kids Fun Zone\, Games\, Home Depot Workshop - Hancock Park\n\nNoon: Patriotic Ceremony with Mayor Gary McCullough - Dahlonega Gold Museum Lawn\n\n2 PM: The Dahlonega Nugget and Wal-Mart present a watermelon cutting with free slices - Hancock Park\n\n2 PM- 5 PM: Enjoy live music and entertainment with the Appalachian Jam - Dahlonega Gold Museum Lawn\n\n5 PM: Join Grand Marshall\, Sheriff Stacy Jarrard\, for the Independence Day Parade - Downtown Dahlonega\n\n6 PM: First Friday Night Concert Series features Radford Windham & Step Back Cadillac - Hancock Park\n\n6 PM - 9 PM: Hot dogs\, BBQ\, Chips & Beverages for sale - University of North Georgia Drill Field\n\n7:30 PM: Desserts at Dusk Fundraiser- University of North Georgia Dining Hall Plaza (Off West Main Street)\n\n*Enjoy an assortment of cheesecakes and experience the 4th of July Fireworks from the best seat in town!
